A 42-year-old man was arrested for smoking a ‘beedi’ onboard a flight at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Worldwide Airport in Mumbai on Tuesday.
The passenger, recognized as Mohammed Fakruddin Mohammed Ammruddin, was flying from Delhi to Mumbai on an IndiGo flight, and was smoking beedi inside the bathroom.
The crew members grew to become suspicious because of the sturdy odor of the beedi and upon inspection, they discovered the beedi inside the bathroom. Upon being questioned, Ammruddin confessed that he was smoking beedi and was arrested by Sahar Police when the flight landed in Mumbai. He has been booked below Part 336 of the IPC and related sections of the Plane Act and despatched to judicial custody.
In an analogous incident, a 56-year-old man was arrested at Kempegowda Worldwide Airport in Bengaluru for smoking beedi on a flight in Could final 12 months. The person, Praveen Kumar from Rajasthan’s Marwar area, had boarded the Akasa Air flight from Ahmedabad and was discovered smoking in the bathroom by the airline’s crew members. He had informed the police that it was his first flight and he did not know the principles.
