Veteran actor Smriti Biswas, celebrated for her contributions to Hindi, Marathi, and Bengali cinema, handed away on the age of 100 in Nashik, Maharashtra, late Wednesday evening, sources confirmed on Thursday. Her loss of life follows issues associated to her superior age. Biswas, a famous yesteryear actor, lived a modest life in a one-room-kitchen rented flat within the Nashik Highway space. Her movie profession commenced as a baby artist, collaborating with iconic filmmakers equivalent to Guru Dutt, V Shantaram, Mrinal Sen, Bimal Roy, BR Chopra, and Raj Kapoor. She shared the display screen with legendary actors Dev Anand, Kishore Kumar, and Balraj Sahni.
Her movie journey started with the Bengali film “Sandhya” in 1930, and her last Hindi movie was “Mannequin Lady” in 1960. Biswas stepped away from appearing after marrying filmmaker S D Narang and moved to Nashik following her husband’s loss of life.
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta condoled her loss of life on Instagram. He wrote, “Go away in peace and to a happier place pricey Smritiji. Thanks for blessing our lives (sic).”
She celebrated her one centesimal birthday on February 17, 2024, and is survived by her two sons, Rajeev and Satyajeet.
