The Indian Navy swiftly responded to a pirate assault on an Iranian fishing vessel close to Gulf of Aden, a press release issued on Friday mentioned.
The Navy obtained inputs a couple of potential pirate incident onboard Iranian fishing vessel ‘Al Kamar 786’ on the night of March 28.
The Navy swiftly responded by diverting two ships, deployed in Arabian Sea for maritime safety operations, to intercept the hijacked fishing vessel.
“The fishing vessel, on the time of incident, was roughly 90 Nm South West of Socotra and was reported to have been boarded by 9 armed pirates. The hijacked FV has been intercepted on March 29. The operation is at the moment underway by the Indian Navy in direction of rescue of hijacked FV and its crew,” the Navy assertion learn.
Socotra Archipelago is within the northwest Indian Ocean close to the Gulf of Aden.
In latest months, the Indian Navy has elevated its vigilance because of elevated assaults on service provider ships close to the Gulf of Aden.
On January 5, the Indian Navy rescued Liberian-flagged ship MV Lila Norfolk off Somalia coast after it was hijacked by pirates.
On March 23, Chief of the Naval Employees Admiral R Hari Kumar mentioned that the Navy will take “affirmative motion” to make sure a safer and safer Indian Ocean Area.
