The Principal Metropolis Civil and Classes Choose and Particular Choose for CBI Instances, Bengaluru, sentenced V Vishweshwara Bhat, former Superintendent of Customs, Air Cargo Advanced, Air Customs Commissionerate, Bengaluru, to 4 years’ imprisonment and imposed a nice of Rs 26,25,000 for the possession of disproportionate property.
A case was registered by the CBI on March 31, 2016, in opposition to Bhat. It was alleged that Bhat, whereas working because the Superintendent of Customs, had amassed property disproportionate to his identified sources of earnings.
Through the test interval, from January 2010 to March 2016, Bhat allegedly had in his possession disproportionate property to the extent of Rs 39,65,329 (113.46 per cent disproportionate to his identified sources of earnings).
After completion of investigation, chargesheet was filed on September 27, 2017 in opposition to Bhat.
The investigation revealed that whereas working as a public servant within the capability of Superintendent at varied locations, he had amassed property to the tune of Rs 28,38,233 disproportionate to his identified sources of earnings. The quantity was 61.94 per cent disproportionate to his identified sources of earnings.
After trial, the court docket held Bhat responsible and sentenced him accordingly.
