9 Sri Lankan refugees who had escaped from the Mandapam refugee camp in Tamil Nadu had been caught close to Neduntheevu Island by the Sri Lankan Navy on Saturday night, officers mentioned.
Three refugees, recognized as Niroshan, Sudha, Gnanajothi, together with three kids and three different girls from Sri Lanka’s Trincomalee, Mannar, and Mullaitivu, had initially arrived at India’s Dhanushkodi coast by sea in the course of the financial disaster between 2022 and 2023.
They had been subsequently given refuge at Tamil Nadu’s Mandapam camp.
The refugees acquired a rustic boat from Nagapattinam and tried to cross the ocean. Nonetheless, upon reaching Neduntheevu, they had been intercepted and detained by the Sri Lankan Navy.
